Students using it passed 1st and 2nd grade in school in just one year. And when they were 3rd grade they already studied the material of 4th grade.
The method I’m talking about is called suggestopedia learning method.
What is Suggestopedia Method?
Suggestopedia is a combination of pedagogy and psychology. This is an original system for efficient acquisition of knowledge:
– In a positive and spontaneous way
– without stress or fatigue
– through mental relaxation and unstressed concentration
– with the help of art
The basis of the method stands the notion that the human brain has unused reserves to absorb the information. Their disclosure helps for a much more rapid and effective learning / 3 to 5 times faster than traditional pedagogy / and the high duration of the acquired knowledge.
Who Discovered Suggestopedia?
The creator of the method comes from the small but beautiful country Bulgaria.
Dr. Georgi Lozanov, this great Bulgarian is the man who discovered an entirely new way to studying different disciplines – a whole new science – Suggestology.
On July 22, 1926 was born Dr. Georgi Lozanov. He is a medical doctor specializing in psychiatry and neurology, and later specializes in physiology of the brain and graduates a second degree in pedagogy and psychology.
He’s the creator of the science of suggestion and its application in pedagogy – Suggestopedia. After many years of work and numerous studies, the Bulgarian scientist discovers how the brain can use most of its potential.
His method is a Bulgarian miracle recognized by UNESCO, through which learning is from 3 to 5 times faster.
Suggestopedia Method Experiments and Examples.
The method is extremely successful in learning foreign languages. The first experiment in this direction again applied on children was to memorize a thousand French words in one day and was completed successfully.
An example of the suggestopedia method was made with children studying with it. They took first and second grade within one year, and in the third were taking material for fourth. The “Guinea pigs” studied mathematics through operas, in which has been talked about numbers, but reading through pictures.
Suggestopedia 7 Basic Principles
Suggestopedia is based on seven basic principles that Dr. Lozanov called laws:
1. Love
Not a sentimental love but love for the human being. In circumstances of positive emotions, the creative intellectual activity and globalized learning process is characterized by a lack of fatigue.
The principle of joy and concentration peace is applied by a system of games and laughter through visuals that are not so illustrative as stimulating in nature, as well as the overall organization of the learning process.
2. Freedom
Freedom of the learner to choose how to perceive knowledge. Freedom empowers the learner to trust their intuitive guidance and to choose his own way to the reserves of the psyche in different moments of the training process. Freedom is not dictated by the teacher, it’s a spontaneous feeling in the learner.
3. The conviction of the teacher that something extraordinary happens
The attitude of the teacher that something extraordinary happens and his belief in the exceptional abilities of the learners resonate in them and lead to the unlocking of their reserve potential.
The state of confidence that something extraordinary happens leads to a state of inspiration in the teacher.
4. Multiple increased material learning
The material at work through Suggestopedia is necessarily repeatedly increased to that used in conventional methods. The methodology has psychotherapeutic, psycho hygiene and educational effect.
5. The principle: Whole – Part, Part – Whole; The part by the whole
Language is one whole. It’s neither just grammar or vocabulary. As our brain perceives the surrounding world in its entirety, not as a collection of separate entities, so he perceives and language as a harmonious living organism.
Therefore, its elements are taught always in the context of the whole, in a meaningful interrelationship with each other, not as separate grammar or lexical units.
6. The Golden Proportion
In Suggestopedia, the golden proportion is first in determining the duration and the ratio of individual components, which further supports the process of tapping the reserves of the learners.
7. Application of Classical Art and Aesthetics
Classical art and aesthetics are used in suggestopedia as particularly effective mediators of non-manipulative communicative suggestion because of their ability to emit countless non-specific incentives that nurture the abundance of peripheral perceptions, inconspicuous for the consciousness.
Although in Bulgaria the method-Lozanov stops, in more than 20 foreign countries, including Austria and the US, are based special schools, which derive positive from it with full force. Thirsty for knowledge children learn in an entertaining way faster and easier boring stuff taught in mainstream schools.
As it got clear to you, the advantages of this method are incomparable. There’s no ground for comparison with the traditional teaching in schools and this method. The benefits are a faster learning rate, higher duration of the learned and better appliance of it. As to its disadvantages, I cannot see a single one.
This is a revolutionary way of learning that will alter our way of perceiving knowledge. It’s time the old-fashioned educational system in schools to change.
Would love to hear your views on the method:)
